Installing Sump Pumps
and Drainage Systems

Sump pumps are used to remove the water that accumulates in the sump pit. Rain water & natural ground water enters the pit by way of the basement drainage system. The pump sends water away from the premises to where it no longer presents a problem. Sump pumps can be installed on the interior and/or the exterior.

There are two basic kinds of sumps.

• Pedestal: Sits above the pit and has easier access.
• Submersible: Sits down in the sump pit and is specially sealed to prevent electrical shorts.
